 Today's Headlines

New Recruits

Over the last two months the Cherry Hill Police Department has added five new officers to the finest law enforcement body in New Jersey. On December 31, 2007, Mayor Bernie Platt, and Charlie Jones, Cherry Hill Police Chief swore in three new police officers. The new recruits are John Domingo, Mykal Shaner and Robert Carson. Standing behind them are Mayor Platt and Chief Jones

Then on Feb. 19, new police officers Randall Karch and Darwin Kieffer were sworn and became the newest members of the Cherry Hill Police Department. Both are graduates of the Mercer County Police Academy Alternate Route Program. They are facing two weeks of classroom training and nearly six months in the Field Training & Evaluation Program

LoJack donates vehicle tracking equipment to Township

On July 26, the LoJack Corporation donated eight vehicle recovery units to the Cherry Hill Police Department to provide assistance for auto thefts. Each unit is valued at $1,800 a piece and the total donation came to approximately $16,000 in parts, training and labor.
The donation was warmly accepted by Mayor Bernie Platt and Chief Charlie Jones.

“Auto thefts occur in every community and this technology will help our officers immediately identify the location of vehicles equipped with a LoJack transmitter and help other departments when a stolen vehicle is driven into Cherry Hill,” Platt said while watching a live demonstration of the device. “With the help of LoJack, we are upgrading our police unit while saving taxpayers money through the donation. Several of the surrounding communities already have this technology and now Cherry Hill will join them to combat car thefts.”

The LoJack System includes a small radio frequency transceiver hidden in a motor vehicle. Each LoJack System has a unique code that is tied into the Vehicle Identification Number. When a theft is reported to the police, a routine entry into the state police crime computer results in a match of the LoJack System's unique code against the state VIN database. This automatically activates the LoJack System in the car, which emits an inaudible signal.
Law enforcement authorities who are equipped with LoJack vehicle tracking units - in their police cruisers and aviation units - are always listening for a LoJack signal. Police use the LoJack vehicle tracking units to track and recover the LoJack equipped vehicle.
All LoJack systems were installed into police cruisers and are currently operating.

The new officers are Corey Knoedler, Daniel Lefebvre, Steven Cornforth, Paul Holodnak, Francis Bradfield, Robert Froehlich, Ryan Johnstone, Sheldon Bryant, Marion Carlin, and Christopher Hendy. These new recruits will now be beacons of public safety throughout our community and I encourage everyone to welcome them to Cherry Hill.
