Cherry Hill Police Department Technical Services

In 1995 the Cherry Hill Police Department set out to modernize an outdated computer network and develop a new wireless computing platform to support our Community Policing effort.

The Cherry Hill Police Department saw the need to update these systems and to create new systems to increase officer safety and productivity. The initial scope of the project was to:

  • Build a wireless network to put access to information in the patrol vehicles.
  • Create an on-line booking system to streamline workflow and return officers quickly to the street.
  • Give Detectives portable access to in-house and state computer systems to increase efficiency.
  • Create a paperless reporting and record retrieval system.

The concepts required development in many areas, and the project was initiated by the creation of a Technology Working Group. The group focused on creating an ambitious plan and making a smooth transition to the new networks.

The network that was created now includes a laptop computer with access to criminal and DMV databases in every patrol car, a new GIS system and database, a computerized Mug Shot and Fingerprinting system and computerized records management, dispatch and booking.

The Technical Services Unit maintains the Data Center, the Dispatch Center and all technology used throughout the department.

The latest venture of the Technical Services Unit is this web site.
